In Canada’s western provinces, large potash mining operations are generating massive tailings piles containing high concentrations of salt. These tailings are stored within holding areas surrounded by dykes, but over time, the salt gradually leaches into the ground, posing a significant contamination risk. If left unchecked, the leachate could migrate offsite, threatening surrounding farmland and the local environment.
To address this issue, DeWind One-Pass Trenching was tasked with installing a trench as part of a comprehensive containment and control system. This trench serves as a critical barrier, effectively preventing the movement of leachate beyond the site boundaries and mitigating potential environmental hazards.
