In partnership with Shaw Air Force Base and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), the DeWind team supported ongoing environmental restoration efforts to address PFAS contamination in local groundwater. As part of a broader initiative to safeguard community health, we contributed to the installation of an advanced resin-based filtration system designed to remove PFOS and PFOA from contaminated water sources on base.
Our work also included the excavation of multiple large trenches to extract groundwater impacted by PFAS, which was treated and then re-injected into the ground to slow the spread of the contamination. These efforts were part of Shaw AFB’s proactive approach—developed in coordination with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC)—to identify affected wells, offer interim water solutions, and protect nearby residents.
