At the Kingsbury Landfill site in Hudson Falls, NY, DeWind supported a critical environmental cleanup project aimed at preventing the spread of contaminants from a closed 18-acre landfill. The site was used for municipal and hazardous waste disposal until 1985, then required an upgraded groundwater control system after a previously installed slurry wall failed to contain leachate.
To address the issue, a groundwater interceptor trench was installed using our one-pass trenching technology. This method was performed entirely below the water table and allowed for precise, efficient, and safe installation of the trench without the need for dewatering, open excavations, or complex shoring systems. The trench now diverts clean groundwater away from the landfill cell, preventing it from mixing with contaminated leachate and protecting nearby water.
The DeWind’s one-pass trenching approach offered significant advantages in both safety and environmental performance. By performing excavation, mixing, pipe installation, and backfilling in a single pass, we minimized disruption to the site and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Our equipment also supported LaBella Associates and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) in achieving project goals within a constrained timeline and budget.
