Shaw Air Force Base Tackles PFAS Water Contamination

Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina has addressed the presence of PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in local water sources. These chemicals are commonly found in firefighting foam and other industrial products and are persistent in the environment and can pose serious health risks. In response, civil engineers at the Shaw are collaborated with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and developed a comprehensive cleanup plan. This effort aimed to restore water quality and address concerns from the local community.
